SIOUX FALLS, SD - In November KELOLAND News brought you the story of one Lost Boy of Sudan's mission to go back and help his homeland.

Atem Juowei, along with the help of Mary's Project, collected school supplies here in Sioux Falls for children in his village and made plans to build a library there.

While Atem remains in Sudan working to bring his brothers to the U.S., one of the members of Mission Hope South Sudan is back to show us the progress they made in the

third-world country. (Full story click video player or Keloland Mission HOPE South Sudan Follow Up)

2011 Historic Christmas Mission Trip to South Sudan
Dear Ann,

Peace and greetings this Holiday Season!

As we quickly approach our Christmas Mission Trip to South Sudan just days away, we ask for your continued prayers and support.

We wanted to share with you the CBS Feature Story on Mission HOPE South Sudan that aired on Keloland TV on Thanksgiving Eve. We will be documenting this historic trip and Christmas reunion of the Lost Boys of South Sudan, and the kick-off of our Library Building Project in the village of Atem Juowei. We will witness and be a part of Atem reuniting with his mother and grandfather for the first time in 20 years, as well as his two teenage brothers still in a refugee camp. Keloland TV as well as other Christian programming and media outlets will be covering the story through the completion of the Library Educational Center.

We also invite you to please consider a charitable Christmas Gift for the children and parents in the South Sudan village where we will celebrate Christmas and build the Library Educational Center. United together, we bring the HOPE of Christmas!

Please stay posted to our website and mission pages, as we will post video and pictures during the trip. Thank you for friendship and especially for prayers.

As we rejoice in the miracle of Bethlehem, may the gift of joy and the blessing of peace be yours this Christmas and in the New Year!

Sincerely united in the hope and joy of Christmas,
Lisa Marie

Requiescat in pace
“Without Sunday, without the Eucharist, the Christians in Iraq cannot survive.” -Father Ragheed Ganni
"My friends, let us pray for peace all together.-Father Ragheed Ganni
“Christ challenged evil with His infinite love. He keeps us united, and through the Eucharist, He gifts us life which the terrorists are trying to take away.” -Father Ragheed Ganni

Statement of witness and wife of one of the three Subdeacons killed with Father Ragheed
"At a certain point, the car was stopped by armed men. Father Ragheed could have fled, but he did not want to because he knew they were looking for him.  They forced us to get out of the car and led me away.  Then one of the killers screamed at Father Ragheed, 'I told you to close the church. Why didn't you do it? Why are you still here?' And he simply responded, 'How can I close the house of God?' They immediately pushed him to the ground, and Father Ragheed had only enough time to gesture to me with his head that I should run away.  Then they opened fire and killed all four of them. Why did they make me a widow?  Why did they tear the word 'papa' from the mouths of my children?  What did we do wrong? What did my husband do?"
e-mails from Father Ragheed to a brother priest in 2006:
"The situation here is worse than hell, and my church has been attacked a few more times since we last met. Last week two guards in it were wounded after an attack. We shall meet in the near future and have a chat about all these events. God bless, Ragheed."

"The situation, as you can follow in the news, is dreadful. Christians are suffering twice, first because of the situation, second because of their religion. The Pope's speech lit a fire in the city. A Syrian Orthodox priest was beheaded; my parish church was attacked five times. I was threatened even before that priest was kidnapped, but I was very careful about moving around. I postponed my vacation twice because I couldn't leave the city under such conditions. I was planning to travel to Europe on Sept. 18, but I moved it to Oct. 4. Then I had to change the date to Nov. 1. Ramadan was a disaster for us in Mosul. Hundreds of Christian families fled outside the city including my family and uncles. About 30 people left all their properties and fled, having been threatened. It is not easy but the grace of the Lord gives support and strength. We face death every day here."

Mar Adday Catholic School Appeal - Karmless, Iraq

On January 8, 2010, 42 yr. old Father Emil Shimoun Nona was ordained the new Archbishop of Mosul, Iraq. Archbishop Nona succeeded Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho, who was kidnapped and killed on March 12, 2008. As head of the Mosul Archeparchy, he is determined to bring "HOPE" to the persecuted and suffering Christians in his region.

Archbishop Nona chose "hope" as his episcopal motto. "My new mission is to provide hope and confidence to the Christians in Mosul, making them aware of the presence of a father and a minister beside them in their present plight."

The Archbishop has appealed to the Global Catholic community to help in the building of the Mar Adday School in Karmless. A school and education will help to secure a future for both children and school teachers who want Iraq to remain their home. Groundbreaking for the school is scheduled for January 2011 with doors opening in the Fall of 2011. $600,000 will allow for the construction of a two story primary school.

A Mission of "HOPE" and the Mar Adday School Appeal - Archbishop Nona's Letter of Appeal:

DAILY PRAYER:   Lord, send forth your Holy Spirit upon our Christian brethren in Iraq. Give them unflinching courage, strength and protection from all harm and danger, and may Blessed Mother Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted, and Queen of Peace, forever carry them in her arms. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
